Battery Recycling
Batteries contain a number of toxic chemicals and heavy metals which are quite dangerous to the environment, which is why Environmental Integrity offers battery recycling as part of its commitment to complete recycling solutions. Almost every kind of battery can be recycled, from lead acid car batteries to rechargeable or alkaline.
Lead Acid batteries, often found in cars, motorcycles, and golf carts are very important to recycle as they contain lead, which is toxic. Rechargeable batteries also contain heavy metals, including lead and cadmium, and other toxic ingredients which are important to keep out of the environment. Exposure to lead is particularly dangerous for children, and can cause permanent learning and behavior disorders. Even in adults, lead is so dangerous that there’s no amount of lead that can be safely said not to cause harm — lead affects every one of the body’s organ systems. Battery recycling keeps the lead safe.
Another key part of our battery recycling program is recycling button cells, often referred to as silver oxide batteries, which are found in watches, calculators and hearing aids. Along with several other kinds of batteries, button cells contain mercury, a toxic metal that is dangerous to dispose of in a landfill. Like lead, mercury is dangerous in humans and is particularly damaging to children and to the brain. It is very important to recycle anything that contains mercury.
Alkaline batteries, the ones you generally use for remote controls or flashlights that aren’t rechargeable, are not as dangerous to the environment as many other kinds of batteries, containing only trace amounts of mercury, but can still be recycled to reuse the steel.
We take batteries that are -
- Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
- Lead Acid Batteries
- UPS Battery Backup
- Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
- Lithium Batteries
- Lithium Ion (Li-ion)
- Button Cells
- Mercury Batteries
- Mixed Batteries
- Alkaline Batteries
- Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
- Non-rechargeable alkaline and carbon zinc batteries (AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, 6V, 9V)
